A seaside in Sant Adrià del Besòs, cordoned off after the invention of a nest of the Little Plover, a protected species

The Rural Agents of the Generalitat de Catalunya have cordoned off an space of ​​the seaside on the mouth of the Besòs river, in Sant Adrià del Besòs (Barcelona) to guard a nest of Little Plover.

It is a protected species, since to finish its nesting it wants sandy soils, ideally on the seaside, and a close-by fluvial atmosphere, so the optimum areas are restricted, and on the similar time very crowded by people in the course of the breeding season. brood, summer season

Since 2010, solely two chicks of this species have managed to take flight within the space across the decrease part and the mouth of the Besòs, even if between 5 and fifteen pairs of this species have tried to breed right here yearly.

Once the Little Plover manages to nest on this space, the eggs face three main threats: floods that happen after a wet episode, pure predation by different animals and destruction by bathers who come to the seashores day by day.

The space will stay cordoned off till the top of July to ensure the viability of the eggs, with the hope that they’ll hatch and hatch new chicks of this species.
