Rara Lake Trek – Queen of Lakes

Rara Lake has currently been a popular short trek destinations in Nepal. Rara Lake is the largest lake in Nepal situated in the smallest district Mugu at an altitude of 2290m with an area of 10.8 sq. kms. It has a depth of 548 ft.  Rara Tal(Lake) is surrounded by Rara National Park with coniferous forest of pine,juniper, oak, Himalayan spruce, Himalayan cypress and other species. Rara National park is also renowned as one finest park in the world. Rara Lake is a center masterpiece of the National park.

BEAUTY OF THE LAKE

The beauty of the lake will astonish your heart and soul. The beauty you experience is biggest fresh water lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains over pristine forest under wide clear blue sky. It is regarded as a boon to experience such beauty. The lake holds two unique endemic fish species that is Nepali Snowtrout and Rara Snowtrout.

Renowned as “Queen of Lakes”

The undivided lake is also known as Mahendra Tal. Late King Mahendra wrote a poem describing the beauty of the lake which is imprinted on a rock there. Mahendra also addressed the lake “Queen of lakes”.

You can enjoy raft-ride to reach the other side of the fresh water lake. It is of 45 minutes ride.

The Rara National Park and Rara lake is observed and conserved by Nepal Army.

Rara National Park is also habitat for musk deer, Himalayan Black bear, leopard, Himalayan goral, and other wildlife. On your way to Rara lake you will also get to see the simple life lived by the locals there.

Chankheli Himal is also visible from Rara lake, which is the same Himal picture imprinted on Re.1 note.

The best view point of Rara Lake can experienced with additional walk to Chuchemara Dauda. It is the best vantage point to get the marvelous view of the lake.

The accommodation services are not luxurious here but it is worth experiencing life in simple room and plain food. It will be a new experience leaving modernity and living ancient life for a while.
