The United States grants the extradition of former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo

Toledo fled to the United States after studying that he was accused of millionaire bribes within the Odebrech case. Since 2018, Lima has requested Toledo’s extradition from Washington

The Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office reported this Tuesday that the US authorities have granted the extradition of former President Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006), who’s accused of corruption. The Public Ministry, “because the central authority in issues of extraditions”, has communicated that it’s working with nationwide and international authorities for the required coordination in view of the upcoming execution of his extradition.

Peruvian authorities allege that Toledo acquired bribes from the development firm Odebrecht. For his half, the previous president of the Andean nation has denied having requested or acquired bribes in alternate for the corporate being favored within the tender for works on the Interoceanic freeway.

Several tax accusations on crimes of collusion and cash laundering weigh on Toledo. In November 2022, the Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office requested 35 years in jail within the case of the fourth part of the Interoceanic freeway. Previously, 20 years and 6 months in jail have been requested for sections two and three of the Interoceanic freeway; and 16 years and eight months for the so-called Ecoteva case. Lima requested, since 2018, Washington the extradition of Toledo to reply for the costs attributed to him.
